Six rules govern every cost figure on this site. They are not marketing — they are the production process, and you can hold us to them.
Sourced and dated — or not published
Every cost figure on this site is sourced and dated, or it does not go live. Each cost table shows where the number came from and when we last verified it. Where reliable public pricing doesn’t exist, we say “call local pros to confirm” instead of inventing a range.
How we verify a number
- Each cost is cross-checked against at least two independent sources — contractor pricing pages, industry cost databases, permit records, and published market data.
- When sources disagree, we publish the range, not a fake single number.
- We use software tools to help compile and format research, but every published figure is checked by the author against its original source before it goes live.
Estimates, not quotes
Our tools and tables show typical ranges. They are approximate and are not quotes. Real prices depend on your home, soil, access, local labour rates, and the specific problem — which is why we always recommend multiple written quotes from licensed local contractors.
Keeping numbers fresh
Cost pages are re-verified on a rolling basis and at least once per year. The “last verified” date next to each table tells you exactly how fresh that data is.
Money never touches the numbers
We may earn from advertising, referral networks, and affiliate links (see our Affiliate Disclosure). None of these partners see our content before publication, and none influence the figures we publish. Free answers are never hidden behind a form.
